First haircut

Violet had her first haircut today. Her hair was looking a little scraggly, with new growth growing in under her old baby hair. I just wanted to get her a little cleaned up, even though I was feeling a little emotional about the prospect of cutting off her original baby locks. I knew that she would probably really start looking like a big girl to me once she had her hair cut and properly shaped.

So I have to say right from the get-go that I kind of wish that I had taken her to the place where Jack got his first haircut. Jack's place made it a real event. I feel that the place I took Violet to was geared more toward older children and they just happened to cut babies' hair as well.

The place we took Jack had these special little chairs in the shape of airplanes and motorcycles for the kids to sit. Today's place had the regular chairs with just a little booster seat to make it higher. Violet couldn't figure out how to sit on the booster, so we just plopped her in the regular chair.

They said they would save some of her hair for me, which I totally wanted them to do. When I had taken Jack, they made a big deal of saving a lot of his hair and gave him a little certificate. Today, they told me that they could make me a "package" including a certificate and a picture for an extra $5. Considering I have a camera and don't need a certificate, I declined. It turns out, the stylist only saved the smallest little bit of her hair - and ended up putting some other kid's hair in the little baggie as well, because she hadn't cleaned it off the seat before having my baby sit in the chair. Ugh.

Anyway, the haircut itself turned out fine, after I made her straighten out the bangs. I don't know that I'll be going back to that particular salon, but my baby girl is beautiful regardless.
