We are currently trying to teach Jack to call me “mommy” or “mama.” He’s known that Tom is “daddy” for several months. He says “Daddy!” when he hears Tom’s key unlocking the front door when he comes from work. It’s really cute. It’s not that he can’t say “mama;” it’s just that he doesn’t seem to understand that I’m “mama.” But he says it every time we leave or approach the house. Tom thinks it might be because he used to take him on walks around the block and then point to the house and say, “Mommy’s in there.” I choose to not believe it’s because I am as big as a house. The other day, a little girl in the park had a toy pig, and Jack called the pig “mama.” That did not make me feel good.
Jack sometimes calls me “dada,” but lately he has been calling me “Annie.” We don’t know why. We think it might be a variation of “Janis.”
