Resurfacing

This has felt like the longest week of my life. We'd had such a nice illness-free run this summer, but now the weather is starting to turn. One of the kids at Jack's preschool has had a perpetually yucky nose. I should have known it was only a matter of time until Jack caught something. And then did he ever.

On Monday, Jack woke up with a fever of 102.4. He woke up feverish again on Tuesday and then on Wednesday. I don't remember when he's ever had a fever for that long. By Wednesday afternoon, I figured I should call the doctor. They recommended we bring him in the following day for an evaluation.

The next morning, he finally awoke fever-free. But we kept the doctor's appointment, and he was diagnosed with croup. It was recommended we keep our quarantine for one more day.

So the upshot is that we've been cooped up in the house with no one to play with for the entire week. Even though Jack was his usual demanding self, I think overall he didn't mind our self-imposed lockdown. He didn't have to go to preschool or therapy. He had his Mommy and his toys all to himself. After a lovely summer of no TV, Jack happily dusted off the remote control and his spot on the couch. Mommy wasn't so enthusiastic.

We finally ventured out to the park today, and it was good to return to the land of the living. Hopefully we'll be back to our regularly scheduled programming next week.

Poor little Jack! Hope he's feeling better soon! Last year Caityn got sick a lot too, and brought it all home to Sean as well. Hopefully, by the time they hit kindergarten, they'll have built up a strong immunity to all those nasty germs!
