Family fun

We've had a wonderful week full of family, friends, and fun. Tom's sister and her girls came out for a whirlwind visit. Jack is absolutely in love with his Auntie Ellen. I'm sure it was both flattering and exhausting, fun and annoying for her that he likes her so much. He kept trying to get her attention and wanting her to play with him. There is a price to pay for being so awesome.

One sign that Jack likes you is if he asks really personal, numerically-based questions. He asked his Auntie Ellen, "How old are you?" And then: "How many pounds are you?" I think she thought that was really fun.

We decided to take advantage of Ellen's visit to schedule Violet's baptism. This also happened to coincide with Father's Day. My parents, my sister and her husband, and Tom's brother also came down to celebrate the occasion. Jack was having a blast with all the extra attention.

After the baptism, we went to Petco Park for the kids' first Padres game. Jack had been to one game before in Camden Yards in Baltimore. It seemed appropriate that, for his first Padres game, they were playing the Orioles. We got tickets to the Park at the Park, which is just a little lawn area where the kids can run around. It was perfect for our hyper little guy. However, by the fourth inning, it was getting really hot, so we decided to go home while everyone was still in a good mood.

Yesterday, we drove up to Huntington Beach to visit with some much-missed friends. It was our first beach day of the year and Violet's first visit to the beach ever. Jack has always been a little dicey about the beach, but he had such a good time yesterday playing with his friends in the sand and the water. I'm hopeful that I'll make a convert out of him yet.

Today felt a little like the day after Christmas. All our family has left, and a lot of our friends are either sick or out of town. But summer is officially here, which means that most of our teacher mommy friends are on vacation and can finally play with us. We can't wait!
