Summer sicknesses are no fun.
Jack started complaining of being cold AGAIN last night, that telltale sign that he's coming down with something. And sure enough, he had a 103-degree fever. I'm not sure if the fact that he was actually sick made me feel better or worse about the day we'd had. We ended up leaving two playdates early because of his temper tantrums. Do I feel better that maybe he was misbehaving because he wasn't feeling well? Or do I feel worse because it was the crappy icing on a crappy cake of a day? I can't remember which one I chose.
The bright side is that at least he chose the day that Violet was getting her shots to get sick. Might as well have two kids with a fever if I'm going to have one. It is a bummer, though, because we're going to have to miss two fun playdates that we had planned this week.
I have to admit, though, that a sick Jack is not an unpleasant Jack. The fever makes him so lethargic that he is too tired to argue with me or throw tantrums or misbehave. It's the day after the fever is gone, when he is still technically contagious but starting to get his energy back that is really hard. But he just now told Tom, "I'm tired. I think I probably need to get in my PJs at 6:55."
I think this is maybe the second time I have ever heard the words "I'm tired" come out of his mouth.
In other news, Violet had her four-month well baby appointment today. The good news is that she appears to be healthy and growing well. The not-as-good news is that the heart murmur that the doctor had discovered at her two-month appointment is still there. The doctor said that we basically need to just wait it out. Usually these things resolve themselves, but if it hasn't gone away by either her six- or nine-month appointment, they'll have a cardiologist check her out. But she is otherwise healthy and happy. She took her shots like a champ. She only cried a little after she got her second of three injections but then quickly calmed down. And now she's asleep, which is a nice silver lining to having to get shots.
Okay, summer viruses, we've had two of you already. That's enough. Please tell your friends that we have hit our quota. Thank you.

We missed you today- Anna asked if Jack was coming. I told her he was sick, and she said, "I need to go to his house to tell him to feel better." So sweet! I would have called for her to tell him personally if she wasn't being such a royal... princess today.
