First time for everything

It was bound to happen. I know I've marveled on this blog before at how much more coordinated Violet is compared to Jack at the same age. Even though she walked later, she was good at it much earlier. Jack had a constant bruise in various places on his face from either falling or banging his head against the wall or floor in frustration. Violet is both more graceful and more gracious, so we don't really have those issues with her.

However, as she is getting bigger and older, she's starting to get a little more adventurous. Most of her shenanigans are, of course, inspired by her big brother. She is constantly imitating him and trying to keep up with him. It was only a matter of time before something happened.

Today they were running around the house chasing each other, and she tripped and fell. Jack said she hit her cheek. She cried and cried, and Jack was trying to console her.

"Do you want me to rub it?" he asked.

"Yes," she nodded, tearfully.

She immediately stopped crying, and I thought that was the end of it. But several minutes later, I noticed a red spot blooming just beneath her right eye. It's the first mark she has ever had on her face. It looks so sad.

In happier milestones, however, she is finally big enough that she refrains from yanking out pigtails as soon as I put them in. And her hair is long enough that they actually do look like pigtails and not little horns. I am of course biased, but I love the way she looks in pigtails. She looks like such a little girl in them.

Maybe I'll put pigtails on her today to distract from her first little shiner.
