On Day 3 of kindergarten, Jack got yet another green - yay! He can count to 8 and say "drink water," "goodbye," "little children," and "you're welcome" in Mandarin. Oddly, his English teacher taught the class a song about the days of the week in Spanish(!).
(That same child who has been having a hard time received orange for the third day in a row. I've started referring to him as Agent Orange in my head. And I saw a different boy crying at drop-off this morning. I think that makes at least five boys in Jack's class that I've seen crying since the first day of school. I hope little boy tears are not contagious.)
Today, his English teacher sent home the activity that she mentioned to me on the phone. Here it is:
Apparently, the universe is telling me that I need to read the book "The Kissing Hand." I'd never heard of it before last week, and all of a sudden I've heard of it from three different people.
I have to say, I don't really love that Jack's teacher wrote that he's a "genius" on his first assignment. But I do like that he's made a great first impression. This assignment pleases me on so many levels: his drawing of the raccoon, all the color he used, that he said he (Jack) was happy on the first day, and that he spelled everything correctly and with appropriate upper and lower case letters.
His kindergarten teacher also sent home a coloring sheet meant to be a fun way to ask parents to collect and turn in Box Tops so that the school can earn money. I happened to have a collection of these going for a teacher friend of mine, which I am now going to be donating to Jack's school (sorry, A!). I had Jack color the sheet and I affixed the Box Tops in the appropriate spaces. I guess we are both overachievers.
Jack said, "This is my homework!" It isn't technically homework, but it is the first thing from school that he has done at home, so I figured I'd scan it in for posterity. Especially since it's not likely this one is going to be returned to us.
On the paper it says, "Be the first to cross the finish line!" Typical Jack asked me what we were going to get for being first. I almost said, "You'll get mentioned on Mommy's blog." But I didn't.
I think Jack is having a lot of fun at school. Today he asked me again how long his kindergarten is. I told him 6 1/2 hours and asked him if he was finding that it was too long. He said no.
It might not be too long for him, but it is for me. I'm glad tomorrow is Friday, and we'll have the weekend to recover from our big week.
