Over the past couple of days, I've been telling him, "We're going to meet Winnie the Pooh in person." Yesterday he told me, "Elmo too." I told him, no, Elmo lives at Sea World. But Winnie the Pooh lives at Disneyland, and so does Piglet, Tigger, Rabbit, Eeyore, as well as Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, and Pluto. I hope we're able to see at least some of those characters when we go.
Today I was telling him that there is a Winnie the Pooh ride at Disneyland, but that there was a part in it that featured the Heffalumps in Pooh's dream. I told him it might be kind of scary for him, because he doesn't like them in the movie, but I said that he could just close his eyes for that little bit.
He considered this for a bit and seemed to accept it. We chatted about Disneyland a little more. Then, all of a sudden, he said to me, "No frumfrumps!"
As I often do when I don't understand what he's talking about, I nodded and smiled. "Okay, Jack, no frumfrumps."
"No!" he insisted, totally hip to the program and refusing to be appeased. "No frumfrumps!"
He kept saying it over and over again until the lightbulb finally went on in my head.
"No Heffalumps?"
"Yeah!" he said in this way he has of half-laughing in relief over having finally been understood by his dense mother.
"You don't want to see the Heffalumps in the Winnie the Pooh ride?"
"No!" he said.
So we discussed it a bit further, and I guess we'll be avoiding the Winnie the Pooh ride. I'm a little relieved that we figured that out ahead of time, because I would have hated to traumatize him with the ride if he really wasn't going to like it.
On Thursday, we went over to a friend's house to play. As we were going home, he recognized the route we were taking, and he started protesting.
"No home!" he screamed.
So I asked him, "Where do you want to go? Do you want to go to the store?"
And he said, "Widweewand! No home! Widweewand!"
It took me a few seconds to realize "Widweewand" was "Disneyland." And over the last couple of days, he has asked to go to "Widweewand" intermittently. I hope after all this anticipation that he'll actually want to see something more than the elevator (his favorite thing about the Zoo) or the bathrooms (his favorite thing about
