I normally love Daylight Savings Time. I love that the sun is out later, which means it's lighter and warmer later in the evening. It's a portent of summer and warm weather. I wish we never had to go back to Standard Time.
This year, however, my enjoyment has been hampered by the fact that Jack still hasn't adjusted to the time change. Ever since the great Spring Forward, he has been going to bed later at night and waking up later in the mornings. While I don't mind the extra peace and quiet in the morning, what usually ends up happening is that he wakes up exactly five minutes after Daddy leaves for work. Since Tom has been on wake-up duty for the last two years, Jack finds seeing Mommy walk through his door in the morning a particularly unwelcome start to his day. So he protests in the way he knows best, namely by crying, whining, and throwing a tantrum.
Which I find a particularly unwelcome start to my day.
And I don't know if starting the day off on this foot makes me especially sensitive to further tantrums, or if he figures he may as well continue to make use of the vocal cords he has already warmed up, but it feels like the screaming and fit-throwing has really increased in frequency the last several days.
It's delightful.
When bedtime finally does come, Jack rarely goes down easy. I have a number of friends whose toddlers will actually tell them they are tired and want to go to sleep. I think Jack has expressed this sentiment exactly one time in his life, and I about fell out of my chair when he did. Despite the abundant frustrations that precipitate his frequent tantrums, he apparently has so much fun being awake that the idea of going to sleep and missing all the action is so awful a prospect that he'll do almost anything to postpone it. Another reason to delay potty-training. I can only imagine the stalling he'll do when he has the excuse of needing to go to the bathroom in his arsenal.
So it's been a bit of a challenging week in Jack-land, but we're looking forward to more outdoor evening fun as the weather gets warmer.
Have a great day, everyone!

bummer Janis! I do love the time change too though as I enjoy the longer nights.. we can finally play outside after naps! I'm sure he'll adjust sooner or later:) Silly guy! let's get together soon, we've been so busy.. we miss you guys!
Did you ever see the "Growing Pains" where the youngest one doesn't want to go to bed because she thinks she's missing a huge party- she imagines that when she goes to bed everyone puts on party hats and has cake, dances, etc. It always cracked me up. Maybe Jack thinks that's what you're doing- maybe you SHOULD do that (and more) to make the best use of your Jack-free moments. Just add in a martini or two.... :-) Seriously, I hope he adjusts soon! And I still love reading you- you crack me up!
