Week 32

I'm on week 32 (and a half, technically) of this pregnancy, and I feel enormous. I had read that, when you carry boys, you're more out front and up, while you tend to be wider around with girls. I was definitely out front with Jack, but I'm even more so with this one. Most of my maternity shirts aren't even long enough to cover the entire bump, and I don't think I had that problem to this extent with Jack. But we've had THREE ultrasounds and have been assured that she is a girl. If she comes out as a boy after all that, a lot of people have a lot of 'splainin' to do.

Here are a couple of photos for comparison. The one at the bottom is me at week 30 with Jack. I think that is the latest belly shot I took while I was pregnant with him. Even though I'm a couple weeks further along in the top photo, don't I seem so much farther out than I did with him?

And for the record, it's almost certain that we've settled (and I don't mean "settled" in a bad way) on the name Violet. While I do reserve the right to change my mind at the last minute, I don't think I will. A couple of things tipped the scales in favor of "Violet." A big one was that I had to correct several people within a short period of time that I wasn't saying "Claire" when they asked about potential baby names. I thought to myself, "I am going to be doing this for the rest of my life. And so is she." I spoke to the one person I know named Clara and asked her if this was ever a problem for her. She said no, but it's because she tends to introduce herself as "Cluh-ra." I guess I'm glad that works for her, but that's not the name that I like.

Of course, Jack being Jack can't just be glad he's getting his way. He's also specified that Violet cannot have a nickname (which I actually agree with) nor can she have a middle name. Well, I may have let him win the war, but I'm definitely going to win that battle. So barring any dramatic changes of heart, she will be Violet Clara.

(Yeah, look at me putting my foot down with my three-year-old. Ha.)
