Why we don't live in a shoe

Jack has been telling us lately that he wants to have 100 babies. He wants them all to be girls, and he wants them all to be called Violet. Yesterday, Tom asked him what we would call one of the 100 babies if it turned out to be a boy?

"Clara," said Jack.

"No," said Tom, "Clara is a girl's name."

I wonder if that's been the problem all along?

Today, Jack reiterated his desire for 100 baby girls named Violet. I asked him, "Where would we put them all?"

"In our house," Jack said.

"I don't think we have enough room for 100 girls," I told him.

"How about 30?" he asked.

"No, not even 30," I said.

"How about 20? or 19?"

"No, that's still too many."

"How about two girls?" he asked.

"We could probably squeeze in two," I said, saying silently to myself, "But we never will!"

"How about three? Or four? Or five? Or six?" persisted my little negotiator.

Nope, Jack, we are having exactly one baby girl named Violet. And I expect that very soon you will find that one is enough.
