Well, another week, another Elmo DVD. We're getting fancy around here. Today's selection is "Elmo's Musical Adventure: The Story of Peter and the Wolf." This was actually the very first Elmo DVD I ever brought home to Jack, sometime last summer when he first became interested in the fuzzy red guy. He was into it for about five minutes when he saw Elmo. Then all these other Sesame Street characters that he didn't know came on the screen, and he quickly lost interest. What a difference a few months make. Now Jack knows and loves all the Sesame Street gang, and he couldn't get enough of this DVD when I trotted it out today. We watched it SEVEN times. There is one part where **SPOILER ALERT** the wolf "eats" the duck that I thought would be too intense and scary for him. The first few times we watched it, I tried to distract him when that part came on. But he eventually saw it and wasn't fazed at all.
Aside from the fact that seven viewings of anything starts to get tiresome, this DVD has actually been my favorite Elmo so far. This is the first one where my presence is not required at all. Jack was so into it, he didn't care if I left the room to take care of other chores. He watched it all the way through without making me go back to specific parts. And I feel like a good mom, exposing him to culture and classical music.
Lastly, but certainly not least(ly?), it is a wonderful change from "The Wild Wild West." Prokofiev is a huge step up from Travis Tritt.
