New Year's Day has always been one of my favorite holidays. It's a time both for reflecting on the past and looking forward to a fresh start (of course, the parties and champagne don't hurt either - at least not until the next morning...).
2008 was filled with some amazing moments. Some that stand out for me:
* Jack officially becoming a walker
* Jack learning new words, letters, colors, numbers, and shapes
* Lots of new babies, baby showers, and birthday parties
* Our trips to Hawaii, Connecticut, and New York
* Jack weaning
* Jack turning 2
* The presidential election
I realize, however, that on balance this past year was a tough one for a lot of people. I personally had to say a couple of sad and final goodbyes to people I loved. I made amazing friends but also saw some fall away. My friendships have brought both comfort and turmoil into my life. Jack's little personality is emerging, and he is by turns delightful and demanding, fun and frustrating, hilarious and exhausting, a great joy and a big pain. But each year we are given is a blessing, and one of my resolutions this year is to try harder to remember that.
