Gender bender

I don't know where this came from, but about a week ago Jack all of a sudden started saying, "Mommy's a boy." All the time. Randomly, apropos of nothing. Sometimes, he'd chant it while he danced. Often, it would be the first thing he'd say to me when he saw me in the morning.

I wonder if this is a commentary on my recent haircut?

Anyway, whenever he'd say that, we would tell him, "Mommy's a girl. Daddy's a boy. Jack's a boy. But Mommy's a girl." To which Jack would shout, "No girl!"

Now, he's starting to kind of grasp the concept of who's a boy and who's a girl. He knows that Elmo is unequivocally a boy and that Jack's a boy. Sometimes he'll acknowledge that Mommy's a girl, but just as often he'll still insist that "Mommy's a boy."

Then a few of days ago, he told me, "Mommy's a boy. Daddy's a women."

Oh well. I'm sure he'll get it eventually.
