Lazy day in Jack-land

Today was a lazy day. I know I'm completely spoiled, but today's high temperature was "only" in the 60s. Even though it was sunny, it was cold enough to make me want to stay indoors. Add to that the fact that Jack insisted on wearing only his diaper and nothing else. Well, we didn't have anywhere to go, so I didn't see the point in fighting with him about it.

"Elmo's Potty Time" experienced a resurgence in popularity today. We watched this DVD six times throughout the day. In between and during viewings, Jack colored, cooked in his kitchen, had several tickling sessions, and ate and ate and ate.

In the past couple of weeks, he has really been fighting his naps. No matter what I do, whenever he knows naptime is approaching, he goes into full tantrum mode.

"No sweepy!" he insists. "No nap!"

When he is particularly adamant, he adopts what we call his "Godzilla" tone.

"No sweepy-time!" he growls.

Then it's scream and cry and howl and bodily hurl himself all over the place until he finally falls asleep. And then he ends up napping for two hours.

Today was actually a relatively easy transition. I put him in my bed, and he yelled for a bit. I asked him if he wanted me to sing him a song, and he said yes. This is the song that I ended up having to sing for him three times before he drifted off:

"Boys do it, girls do it, big kids all around the world do it...
You'll do it, you'll use the potty!"

There are several more verses to this song, and yes, I sang them all.

You're such a wonderful mom, Janis. Jack is a very lucky boy to have you (and Tom too, of course). We love lazy days like that around our house. One of the sweet, simple pleasures of staying home. :)
