Strange comforts

This is a picture of the loveys that were in Jack's crib with him last night:

For those of you who are wondering, yes, that is a bottle of vitamins, a bag of microwave popcorn, and a bottle of apple juice (all unopened - I'm not that bad a mother).

Over the last several days, Jack has insisted that all these items be in his crib with him when he goes to bed. He won't go to sleep without them. It started with the vitamins a couple weeks ago, then the juice (he actually had two of those bottles in the crib with him until we had to open the other one), and now the popcorn. His crib is starting to look like our pantry.

Then he brought that bag of popcorn with us to the Zoo today and didn't let go of it the entire time we were there.

He has also become really fixated on our elbows. Tom used to show him "Daddy's wrinkly elbows" during diaper changes, and now Jack is constantly rubbing or gripping our elbows. He also likes the wrinkles on our knuckles. He'll beg for "Mommy's hand!" while we're driving. As long as we're not on the freeway, I'll reach back and let him hold my hand while I drive. I can feel him pinching and kneading the excess skin around my knuckles while he does this.

Oh well, whatever gets us through the night... and day.

Jack-Jack really never lets me down---ever. Just when I think, "Oh that Jack is such a character"---he goes and does something like this. How funny. I wonder what he will think of these stories when he's older?

Mitchell wants to hold my hand in the car too. So whenever Dave drives, he asks until I recline my seat and offer my hand until my arm falls asleep. You're right: whatever gets us through.
