The silver lining to the cloud of the grandparents leaving is that Tom starts his paternity leave tomorrow. Six whole weeks - whoo hoo! Jack is super excited to have his daddy home for so long. As I mentioned before, Jack's jealousy only really rears its head when Tom pays too much attention to the baby. Also, funnily enough, he is very territorial of his lullabies. I can't have the baby in the room when it's time for me to sing his bedtime songs. Otherwise, he is so sweet and loving with her. He asks to have her sit by him on the couch and often wants to hold her. Unfortunately, she is still a little too heavy for him, and he can't really do it without assistance.
I found this out the hard way when we went to the Flower Fields. Jack saw his friend Luke holding his baby while all the kids were posing for pictures, which made Jack want to hold Violet. As we were snapping away, I saw that Jack had actually dropped the baby. Oops. Thankfully, he was sitting on soft grass, so no harm was done.
I'm feeling great. My recovery this time around is so much easier and quicker than it was with Jack, although I'm finding it's taking a little longer for my belly to disappear this time around. But I'm so thankful we've been able to get out of the house and keep up Jack's routine of seeing friends and doing fun activities. On Saturday, Violet and I went to a welcome baby shower for little Ian and his mama while the boys went to the park. On Sunday, Jack and Violet's Auntie Renee came down for a visit. Monday, we went to the Children's Museum. On Tuesday, we had a park play date. On Wednesday, we hit the Carlsbad Flower Fields with lunch and some shopping afterward. Today, we had a play date at home with friends. Tomorrow, we have a photo shoot with the amazing Amber and then off to the Wild Animal Park to see the butterflies and the lorikeets.
In other news, Jack has finally completed his transition to the big boy bed. He had been sleeping on Tom's old futon as a transitional bed, because it was wider than a twin and lower to the ground than a regular bed. I thought this would be helpful just in case he ended up rolling off, which he never did. Meanwhile, the always awesome Danielle was refinishing a bed for Jack. We moved him into it this weekend. It looks great in his room, and he really loves it.
