Hooray for heaters!

Last year when the weather started turning colder, we bought this space heater for Jack's room. It worked fine, but, you know, it was nothing to write home - or on one's blog - about. We put it away when the weather got warmer. No big deal.

Once Fall fell in San Diego, we brought the space heater out of hibernation. And wow! Now that Jack has turned 2, he thinks it is the best thing ever. And I'm inclined to agree, because it has made bedtime and naptime so much easier. (KNOCK WOOD.)

This particular heater is a thermostatic model, so you can set it for the temperature you want. It defaults at 75 degrees, and we tend to keep Jack's room closer to 67. The fun thing (for Jack) is that the thermostat beeps as you dial the temperature down (or up). Jack loves the beeps. And he loves the noise the fan makes when it comes on. And he loves the blue light that we actually had to dim with duct tape and the red digital display that shows the temperature.

Now he asks for "heater noise" all day long. We tell him that it's only for bedtime or naptime. It has made sleeping in his crib a viable option for naptime, when before he would only nap on our bed. (KNOCK WOOD.) When he asks for it in the evening, we just start our bedtime routine. This includes reciting the previously hated "The Going to Bed Book." But now he says it right along with us and then very docilely gives Mommy a good night kiss before going up to bed with Daddy. (KNOCK WOOD.) Since the return of the heater, bedtime has been moved to at least half an hour, sometimes even 45 minutes, earlier. (KNOCK WOOD.) And morning wake-up time is on average about half an hour later.

Did I mention "KNOCK WOOD"?

So hooray for heaters! What are we going to do when Springtime comes?
