Sandra Boynton's Greek chorus

For months and months, we have recited Sandra Boynton's "Going to Bed Book" as part of Jack's bedtime ritual. Everything I've ever read on sleep training has said that we need to create and stick to a routine for bedtime and naptime. While that sounds good in theory, sometimes I wonder if it really helps. To Jack, it seems it's not so much a routine as a warning to start digging in his heels.

The past couple of nights, this is what putting Jack to bed has sounded like:

Me: Jack, it's time for night-night.

Jack: No night-night!

"The sun has set not long ago..."

No go!

"The animals all go below..."

No 'low!

"To take a bath in one big tub..."

No tub!

"With soap all over, scrub scrub scrub..."

No srub!

And on and on.

You get the idea.
