We just got back from Jack's first camping trip. We went to the La Jolla Indian Reservation near Escondido (about an hour's drive) with a few of Jack's buddies and their families. I figured it was the perfect way to introduce Jack to outdoor living, mainly because I knew everyone else would understand if he cried all night long. Thankfully, he slept great at night, although daytime naps were a little iffy.
The weather was HOT during the day but pleasant at night. We arrived Friday afternoon and left Sunday morning. We spent Saturday playing in the San Luis Rey River. Jack had a lot of fun with his friends Luke ("Doot"), Jakob, and Charlotte (who unfortunately had to leave after the first night). Luke and Jakob are a little older than Jack, and it was fun to see when he wanted to imitate the big boys and when he just wanted to do his own thing. Unfortunately, sometimes the desire to emulate manifested itself in grabbing toys the big boys were already playing with. *sigh* But I think being around other kids non-stop this weekend is what helped Jack learn how to say, "Yeah!" Prior to the past few days, Jack would only answer, "No!" if I asked him a question. It was great to see that he finally understands the concept of "Yes."
So despite beer thieves, bathrooms of questionable cleanliness, bees and skunks, sleep deprivation, and dust everywhere, we had a wonderful time. Thanks for inviting us, Jane and Jenn!
