Monster mash birthday bash

Last weekend, we had a Halloween party at our house to celebrate Jack's birthday. It was a little wild, with 30+ kids and their parents, but it was so much fun to see Jack's pals in their costumes. My parents, my sister and her husband, and Tom's brother and his family all came down for the party, which made it extra special.

We decorated our backyard to look like a pumpkin patch. One guest told us, "What a great idea, laying down all this hay." I didn't tell her that all that "hay" is actually dead grass and weeds that we mowed down a few weeks ago.

We had an Elmo bounce house that was a huge hit.

And we had LOTS of cupcakes. Two kinds! Vanilla (dyed orange) with whipped cream frosting and chocolate with a ganache frosting, both with whipped cream filling. Jack is now a big cake fan. :)

After the party, Jack kept saying: "Cake. Hot. Fire. Owie. Candle." (I guess we did a good job teaching him not to touch the candle on his cake.) And then: "Elmo jumpy. Happy."

Our house still hasn't quite recovered from the excitement, but it was great sharing this special day with people we love.

P.S. Weaning update: No nursing since Tuesday. I guess this really is it! Happy HalloWEAN, Jack - har har *snort*!
